Christmas back on as BA strike ‘illegal’

A High Court hearing has declared the planned BA strike action illegal, so can travellers now relax?

The High Court decision that the British Airways (BA) cabin crew strike planned by Unite can’t go ahead will be great news for the travelling public.

Of course, there is the danger Unite will appeal but, for now, this will be a real relief to worried Christmas travellers.

Unite should now call off this disproportionately extreme 12 day strike and staff should commit to work as normal, so that the one million passengers booked with the airline can breathe a sigh of relief and carry on with their travel plans this Christmas and New Year.

Confirmation

While this indicates that the proposed strike action is now illegal, we still need reassurance from both BA and Unite that flights will operate as normal throughout the festive period.

Any customers considering changing their travel plans should wait for this announcement before they make alternative arrangements.

We expect the vast majority of all flights to now operate to schedule, allowing customers to continue with their original travel plans.

Contact

To make sure you receive any relevant information as quickly as possible, check your contact details are up to date in your booking, either direct with BA, or with your travel agent or operator.

BA or your agent should be in touch to confirm your flight.

Customer loyalty

The threat of strike action has been hugely damaging for the British Airways brand and customer loyalty has been strained to breaking point.

Many customers will have been severely tested by the threat of strikes, particularly at this time of year. With rival airlines offering equally great levels of service at competitive prices, there’s a real danger travellers will simply desert BA.

Careful

The underlying problems that caused the strike are still unresolved and customers should be cautious about committing to fly British Airways.

It’s possible Unite will ballot cabin crew again and still manage to disrupt the Christmas period, so wait to hear what the union plans before assuming all is well.
